| CurriculumOur curriculum is designed to allow students to practice and expand upon their problem-solving and aesthetic capabilities while preparing for a career in the arts. Students study painting, photography, drawing, and printmaking and use those skills in subsequent design courses. From the first year, students employ state-of-the-art technologies in their work. Whether they are designing a logo for a company or developing a photographic series for an advertising campaign, students are challenged to communicate ideas clearly, use technology effectively, and create distinctive and memorable solutions. In the sophomore year, students practice design in context working for real or imagined clients, and are asked to evaluate the effectiveness of their own and each other’s solutions in open group critiques.
During the junior year, students explore concepts of branding across media, and begin developing solutions for web and motion problems using video and sound. Students may pursue a track in Visual Communication, Photography, or Motion Graphics. Students participate in yearly portfolio reviews to evaluate their success in the course of study and their progress. All students have the opportunity to complete an internship before graduation, and senior year electives are available to facilitate post-baccalaureate plans. Graduating seniors also participate in portfolio reviews with Advisory Board members and guest professionals from around the region. |
